hey folks, i'm a brand new EKRC member, probably spoke to a few folks @ the sat runs or last club night but for those who i haven't, hopefully meet you soon.

just wondering if anyone does the Ingliston Crit Series races? I'm new to racing and though racing isn't really a priority this season for me, i'd like to get some experience under my belt nonetheless. I'm planning on some APR's but thought about the Crit series too as its on a closed circuit and only an hour. Would this be beneficial or would it be wilder than a proper road race itself!!??

any advise would be welcome
cheers
Rich

Rich, Im planning doing some of the ingleston crits as well, and although they are only an hour, it will be the hardest hour.

You may have seen from the races at the weekend, Super 6 and Moscow, that there was a quite a few crashes and the likes and mostly its down to inexpeirence riding in big bunches for the 1st time, so getting in as much expeirence by riding in bunches is quite important, even when racing on closed roads, most crashes are with other cyclist, rather than with cars.

Where do you live?

Tue/Thur night starting Apr, the Bundy from Hamilon-Lanark-Valley
Sat morning Douglas bunch from EK
Tue/Thur think there was an A77 bunch

Most people will be happy to tell you where to be and where not to be, sometimes emphasised with and appropriate swear word. Just watch and learn and dont take offence.

The club are also running the APR last Thur of the month I think, dont quote me, all good bunch experience.

Good luck and dont forget to enjoy it as well Very Happy

hi rich .if the crits are run the same way as last year i.e 2nd 3rd 4th cat all together then it is not the best place to start racing as it is very fast and you will get laped, and that is not the best cofidence booster .but if they have 4 th cat go races then have a go . i know it is only an hour but as mig said it is very a hard hour .you will prob be up around 70 to 85% max hr for the hour
best thing to do is go out with the sat 10 bunch just to see how things work .it will also let you know what kind of level you are at whith you fitness .dont be pissed of if you end up out the back it happend to every one and still dose from time to time .see you sat cheers

Rich I'm in a similar position in that I'm racing for first time this year. I will be doing the full crit series so would be good to see u there if u decide to give it a go. It's 2/3/4 cat as stevie says so should be good training Embarassed at least if u get dropped you will be in good company!

hey, thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

yeah i'll be along on Saturday morn for the Douglas one, came along with Ciaran a few weeks ago, was good fun.

stay in city centre so easily assesible for all runs.
when do the tues / thursday runs / apr's kick off?

Ciaran's told me plenty about the Bundy runs too!

Also as for the Crit series, are you out if you're lapped?? that ould be a deciding factor in entering or not!!

you wont be out of the race if your lapped, just generally out of your zone/heid/box etc etc

Just do whatever Ciaran does and stick to his wheel, it seams to work quite well for him.
I never managed it.
We set off together to do the Fred Witton last year, 7hr run. Last saw him on the hill at approx 3mins and 22secs into it and didnt see him again for another 7hrs. Very Happy
